Polished Aircraft Grade TitaniumTitanium, named after the Titans of Greek mythology, is one of the chemical elements (Ti, number 22). It is known for it's strength and resistance to corrosion – including acid attack, sea water and chlorine – and in jewellery for its lustre and gray colour. It has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal with a relatively high melting point. It is non magnetic and a poor conductor of heat and electricity. It is resistant to tarnishing. Its inertness makes it perfect for those who suffer from other metal allergies and for swimmers. Titanium is non-toxic even in large doses. Titanium is widely used in aircraft for its unsurpassed strength in low weights. Titanium purity is measured in grades. Grades 1 to 4 are pure titanium – other grades are necessary for different purposes requiring levels of durability and malleability. The Louis is made from a very strong and lightweight aircraft grade 6Al-4V, which is made up of 90% titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium.
Titanium is extremely strong. Titanium rings cannot be resized, unless the metal is paired from the inside and repolished. We do of course offer a full exchange policy to always ensure that you have the correct size.
It is the seventh most abundant metal on earth. It is present naturally in all living things, in the moon, in the sun, and the in other stars. Not one of the traditional precious metals under Irish law (silver, gold and platinum), it is not required to be hallmarked by Dublin Castle; instead it bears our own Royal Claddagh inscription. | |
